Angela Phillips - Principal

Angela joined the faculty as Principal in January 2012.  She earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts – French Language and Literature Specialist degree, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto.  She also holds a Master of Science in Education – Administration and Supervision degree from Niagara University, New York and a Diplôme d’études française from the Université de Nantes, France.  Angela’s additional credentials include: FSL, Special Education, Guidance, and Principal’s qualifications as well as certification at the Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels.

Angela began her professional career in the Barrie area where she was employed for many years as a teacher, department head and vice-principal.  For the past 14 years she has worked in the independent school sector as a Guidance Department Coordinator, Academic Director, Head of Senior School, and Leadership Team member.  She is a long-time club advisor to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards program and is a sports enthusiast who has coached alpine skiing, badminton, curling and volleyball.  Her outside-of-school pursuits include golf, skiing, reading, film and theatre-going and serving on the volunteer Board of Directors of International Student Exchange – ISE Ontario.

Skilled at building trusting relationships within the school community, Angela enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues to create a positive learning environment and to move schools forward to meet the challenges of 21^st century.  She is most proud of the initiatives she has facilitated in the area of adolescent health and well-being, and in the wellness pilot projects and partnerships that she has developed with outside organizations.

Angela finds it incredibly rewarding to work with others to support young people in attaining their academic and life goals, and according to her, “it is the best job in the world”.

 Arthur Wang – Executive Vice Principal

Mr. Arthur S. Wang has been teaching and doing research since the 1960’s in China, the U.S.A. and Canada. His expertise lies in the following areas: English, ESL, American Literature, and Cross-Cultural Studies as a Professor in China, Fulbright Professor in Residence in the USA at Ashland University, Visiting Professor at University of Illinois at Springfield, Visiting Researcher at University of Houston, and Instructor with TESL Ontario Certificate.

His experience in administration includes eight years as Chairperson of the English Department and five years as Head of the American Studies Center in a university in China; and one year as Vice Director of the Chinese Proficiency Test Committee at the University of Houston and CEO of the International Culture and Education Exchange Center for three years in Canada and Chief Representative in Canada for Upper Iowa University for three years.

He holds his Master Degree of English from the University of Illinois at Springfield (formerly Sangmon State University), in the USA. As an author or co-author or co-translator, he has published fourteen books in China and the U.S.A., thirty-six articles in academic journals in China and the U.S.A., and has presented twenty-eight papers at professional conferences in China, Korea, the U.S.A. and Hong Kong.

Paul Raymond – Education Consultant

As a teacher, principal, superintendent and director, Paul Raymond has thirty years of educational experience in Ontario. He holds four university degrees, including an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto. He also holds Principal and Supervisory Officer certificates from the Ministry of Education.

From 1971 to 1990, Mr. Raymond was a Teacher, Department Head, Consultant and Principal with the former North York Board of Education.

From 1990, Mr. Raymond was a member of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s senior management group.
