Angela Phillips - Principal
Angela joined the faculty as Principal in January 2012. She earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts – French Language and Literature Specialist degree, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. She also holds a Master of Science in Education – Administration and Supervision degree from Niagara University, New York and a Diplôme d’études française from the Université de Nantes, France. Angela’s additional credentials include: FSL, Special Education, Guidance, and Principal’s qualifications as well as certification at the Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels.
Angela began her professional career in the Barrie area where she was employed for many years as a teacher, department head and vice-principal. For the past 14 years she has worked in the independent school sector as a Guidance Department Coordinator, Academic Director, Head of Senior School, and Leadership Team member. She is a long-time club advisor to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards program and is a sports enthusiast who has coached alpine skiing, badminton, curling and volleyball. Her outside-of-school pursuits include golf, skiing, reading, film and theatre-going and serving on the volunteer Board of Directors of International Student Exchange – ISE Ontario.
Skilled at building trusting relationships within the school community, Angela enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues to create a positive learning environment and to move schools forward to meet the challenges of 21st century. She is most proud of the initiatives she has facilitated in the area of adolescent health and well-being, and in the wellness pilot projects and partnerships that she has developed with outside organizations.
Angela finds it incredibly rewarding to work with others to support young people in attaining their academic and life goals, and according to her, “it is the best job in the world”.
Arthur Wang – Executive Vice Principal
Mr. Arthur S. Wang has been teaching and doing research since the 1960’s in China, the U.S.A. and Canada. His expertise lies in the following areas: English, ESL, American Literature, and Cross-Cultural Studies as a Professor in China, Fulbright Professor in Residence in the USA at Ashland University, Visiting Professor at University of Illinois at Springfield, Visiting Researcher at University of Houston, and Instructor with TESL Ontario Certificate.
His experience in administration includes eight years as Chairperson of the English Department and five years as Head of the American Studies Center in a university in China; and one year as Vice Director of the Chinese Proficiency Test Committee at the University of Houston and CEO of the International Culture and Education Exchange Center for three years in Canada and Chief Representative in Canada for Upper Iowa University for three years.
He holds his Master Degree of English from the University of Illinois at Springfield (formerly Sangmon State University), in the USA. As an author or co-author or co-translator, he has published fourteen books in China and the U.S.A., thirty-six articles in academic journals in China and the U.S.A., and has presented twenty-eight papers at professional conferences in China, Korea, the U.S.A. and Hong Kong.
Paul Raymond – Education Consultant
As a teacher, principal, superintendent and director, Paul Raymond has thirty years of educational experience in Ontario. He holds four university degrees, including an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto. He also holds Principal and Supervisory Officer certificates from the Ministry of Education.
From 1971 to 1990, Mr. Raymond was a Teacher, Department Head, Consultant and Principal with the former North York Board of Education.
From 1990, Mr. Raymond was a member of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s senior management group.
Brenda MacDonald – Administrator and ELC Chair
Brenda MacDonald, originally from Southern Ontario, joined TAIE as an English teacher in 2002. Brenda holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, a Diploma in Education, and a Master of Education from McGill University. As a member of the TAIE Family, she has helped to develop English course materials according to government standards, has taught four levels of ESL as well as the Literacy and English 4U courses and has assisted new teachers by “showing them the ropes.” Brenda has overseas experience, has studied a second language and is committed to high professional standards. She enjoys working in an international environment.
Ms. Dimcic – Academic Guidance Counsellor
Ms. Dimcic is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She is passionate about working with international students in the education industry. In particular, she is enjoying giving academic advice to our students at TAIE.
Sam Burton-ESL Teacher
Dr. Sam Burton, an ESL teacher for over 37 years, has received his doctorate degree from Marlborough University in UK and obtained his second MA in Education from the States. He also holds a diploma in Creative Writing from SCI in Montreal, QC., Canada. He entertains a sound knowledge of strategies to promote teaching excellence, development, assessment policy and related matters. He was and still an actor, a director, and an instructor of Shakespearean drama. He has published lots of poems, short stories and novels. He is also a calligrapher, an oil painter, and a tennis trainer. He is still a member of TESL and an affiliate to a lot of local and international associations.
Dr. Andrew Linder received his M.A. from McGill University and his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He has taught transitional courses to successful university studies throughout his teaching career, including the Transitional Year Programs for the University of Toronto. He also designed transitional programs specifically for International Students at the new University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). In addition, his lectures for the IEEE at the MIT and other published scholarly studies are available on-line. Having taught college and university courses throughout his teaching career, Dr. Linder takes great delight in preparing TAIE Institute students for successful university careers.
Jonathan Feldman-Math Teacher
Jonathan completed his Bachelor of Science degree in computing science and math at McGill in 1996. He then went on to study music technology in the Media Lab at M.I.T. In 2003, he returned to school to complete his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Western Ontario, and has been teaching math ever since. Jonathan’s passions are teaching, mathematics, and music. In addition to teaching, Jonathan leads two bands and plays jazz piano.
Svetlana Petrova – ESL Teacher
Svetlana got her Master’s degree in English in 2001 and her Bachelor of Education in 2008 at the University of Toronto. Following teacher’s college she was happy to have joined the TAIE team. Svetlana has taught the English language in Europe and loves working with young people. Her passion has always been writing poetry and reading detective novels. She belongs to a few professional organizations and is involved with the Eastern European community.
Moses Klein – Math Teacher
Moses Klein studied mathematics and philosophy at Yale University and the University of Wisconsin. In between, he spent two years backpacking around South and Southeast Asia. He taught mathematics at three American universities before joining the TAIE faculty in February 2009. When not teaching, he enjoys classical and jazz music, international film, and playing bridge.
Stan Howe-ESL Teacher
Stan received his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Memorial University of Newfoundland, as well as a TESL Certificate. Following university, Stan spent five years teaching at Chusun University Technical in South Korea. Stan has also made a contribution to a series of ESL Phonics books for children published by e-learning Co. in South Korea. After returning to Canada, he continued to teach ESL at a number of institutions in the Greater Toronto Area, and now enjoys teaching at TAIE. Stan has always enjoyed teaching but has a love for the arts as well.
Tiziana DeLuca-Physics Teacher
Tiziana DeLuca obtained her honors Bachelor of Science in Physics from Brock University. Her research interests at the time were in the area of superconductivity. She proceeded to obtain an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. Her focus was in international business and spent some time working in Europe at BMW and Daimler-Benz-Aerospace. She also taught North American business practices to Eastern European businesses when they were entering the North American market. Her varied interests have led her to a variety of positions. She was a technical trainer for a wireless software provider, a translator, and a consultant for a biomedical company. She enjoys teaching and in the winter volunteers as a ski instructor for children with challenges. In the summer, she participates in many dragon boat races throughout the province.
Daniela Milosevic – Science Teacher
As a little girl, Daniela dreamed of becoming a teacher. For seven years now, she has been enjoying teaching high school both overseas and in Canada. Having received a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry from the University of Belgrade, Daniela now specializes in science courses at TAIE International Institute. She has also met the standards of the Ontario College of Teachers and is currently pursuing a Master in Education. Finally, when Daniela is not teaching and studying, she enjoys her many hobbies, including reading, fashion, theatre, power-walking and skiing.
Jessica Foreman – Visual Arts
Jessi Foreman is a graduate of Lakehead University with Bachelor degrees in Visual Arts and Education. She enjoys working with our international students at TAIE, and when she is not teaching art, Jessi can be found reading a novel, baking cookies, or watching a movie. Finally, Jessi loves spending quality time with her family and two cats.
Leo D’Aloisio – Canadian and World Studies
Leo received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from York University in 2007 and his Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario in 2009. Prior to teachers’ college, Leo traveled around Europe for about one month, an experience which ignited his drive to do more traveling in the future. In the classroom, Leo has a passion for the social sciences, especially history. He constantly invites students to look past simple facts and look towards significance and the big picture in Canadian history. Outside of the classroom, Leo is an avid sports fan and can usually be found playing his favourite sport, soccer, or watching any other sport that catches his interest.
Merita Kligerman – English Teacher
Merita is a graduate of the University of Toronto, and Queen’s University in Kingston, as well as OISE/UT. She is passionate about literature, literacy and lifelong learning. At TAIE, Merita teaches English and prepares students for entry into graduate school. When she is not teaching, Merita enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family.
Sema Huseynova – ESL Teacher
Sema has her U of T-confirmed PhD in Linguistics, Germanic Philology and enjoys a passion for teaching languages. She has also received a University of Saskatchewan CCDE CERTESL Program and TESL Ontario Certificate. She knows 5 languages, including German, Turkish, Azeri and Russian and has a tremendous amount of experience in teaching English as a second language.
Sema’s hobby is playing piano and keyboard, and she loves her piano improvisations. In her spare time she also enjoys yoga, meditating, reading, listening to classical music and going to museums.
Yuki Zhang – Academic Guidance Counsellor
Yuki received her Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Economics from China University of Political Science and Law. In 2009 Yuki also obtained her Master of Law degree from the University of Toronto. She now enjoys working as an Academic Guidance Counsellor at TAIE and takes great pleasure in helping international students fit into the Canadian educational environment. In her spare time, she also loves spending time with friends, cooking, and engaging in outdoor activities.
